The center liberal bloc to be headed by former Chancellor Schober is experiencing difficulties because of anti-Semitism. The center election bloc which was to include all the center parties including the Pan-Germans will lose the support of the Democratic party if it gets the support of the Pan-Germans because the latter is sticking to its program of racial anti-Semitism. This makes it impossible for the Democratic party to join the bloc in view of the large Jewish membership in the Democratic party.
Deputy Wagner, one of the leaders of the Pan-Germans, declared that his party would under no circumstances abandon or change its traditional party attitude towards the Jewish question although it realizes that the sympathy of individual Jewish groups favors Schober.
In the meantime Chancellor Vaugoin charges the opposition press with having maliciously inserted anti-Semitic utterances in the report of the speech of Prince Ernest von Starhemberg, Heimwehr leader and minister of the interior. Simultaneously the Catholic Reichspost publishes an article appealing to Starhemberg to concentrate on proper and practical election propaganda and to avoid giving utterance to statements which may be misunderstood.
