A caucus of deputies of both parties in the Government coalition joined today in calling for a session of Parliament to enact a law prohibiting the revival of neo-Nazi activities. The bipartisan caucus was held in response to protests expressed by many in this country who are alarmed at the increasing number of publications devoted to neo-Nazism, and at the growing number of incidents of anti-Semitic vandalism.
Minister of Interior Oskar Helmer announced that he had given strict instruction to the Federal police to take swift and energetic action against all anti-democratic and neo-Nazi activities.
Meanwhile, Mayor Ernst Koref, of Linz, has been awarded the first Crystal Night commemorative medal, according to an announcement by the Board of Jewish Communities of Austria. The Board decided last week to award such a medal annually to a non-Jew who has been outstanding in the fight against anti-Semitism and neo-Nazism.
