Despite “noisy protests,” Austrian Justice Minister Otto Tschadek declared yesterday that he is proceeding with plans to amend Austrian restitution legislation, it was reported here from Vienna. The protests, from Jews and others, is aimed at features of the amendment which would compensate persons forced to yield up Nazi-confiscated property from the proceeds of Jewish heirless property and would expropriate Jewish owners from land which they hold as “absentee owners.”
