Austrian museums housing hundreds of artworks seized by the Nazis will be returned to their rightful owners, a government official said. The artworks include paintings, coins, sculptures and antiques — most of which belonged to Jews. Thousands of artworks confiscated by the Nazis after Austria was annexed by the Third Reich in 1938 were returned after the war. But some were incorporated into Austrian museums on the grounds they could not be shipped out of the country.
