Gottfried Meir, former Nazi S. S. officer, was sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia yesterday for killing four Jews in Italy in 1943. The murders had been committed at Intra, on Lago Maggiore.
The Austrian Government has refused to extradite Herr Meir to Italy. An Austrian court, which had tried the ex-Nazi officer on similar charges, had acquitted him for “lack of proof.”
