The Finance Committee of the Austrian Parliament submitted to Parliament today a Government proposal to negotiate with the Jewish community on the long-delayed fulfilment of Jewish demands for compensation to victims of the Nazi period.
A plenary meeting of the Austrian Parliament will decide this week on a draft under which Catholic and Lutheran churches will receive advance payments of about 211,000,000 schillings in part compensation for losses during the Nazi regime.
Meanwhile, Parliament has passed a new entertainment tax of the equivalent of one cent on each cinema admission to finance financial aid to victims of Nazism and persons disabled in the war. The Nazi victims are expected to receive about 12 percent of the anticipated $200,000 a year receipts.
