The Upper House of the Austrian Parliament approved this weekend two new restitution measures passed by the lower house last month.
The bill providing payment of $6, 000, 000 in compensation for certain categories of Nazi victims was adopted without debate. The 12th amendment to the Nazi Victims Law was debated but was adopted without modification.
Passage of this amendment gives sanction to the improved schedule of benefits to Jews and other victims of nazism, but the measure does not enter into effect until the West German Federal Republic reaches an agreement with Austria on the German contribution to the funds available for compensation. Austro-German negotiations, scheduled for this month, have been deferred until June.
