Jewish circles were heartened today by attacks against anti-Semitic political activities delivered by Field Marshal Alexander Averescu, Rumanian war hero, and Dr. Nicholae Lupu, vice-president of the National Peasant Party.
Marshal Averescu, addressing a mass meeting of the People’s Party at Kishineff, yesterday denounced extremist parties and condemned the confusing of Communism with Judaism for the purpose of creating racial friction, “which is to the disadvantage of the country.”
He declared that he respected the rights of Jews as equal citizens with Rumanians.
Dr. Lupu, addressing 40,000 peasants at Satumare, accused the anti-Semites of delivering Rumania into the hands of Germany in return for heavy subsidies.
