A plea to the Jews of America from Jewish communities in Eastern and Central Europe to unite behind the World Jewish Congress in its efforts to coordinate and strengthen relief for Jews in the war-stricken areas and to begin the work of preparing for the restoration of Jewish rights after peace, was made public last night by Dr. Arjeh Tartakower, economist and a leader of Polish Jewry, who recently arrived here.
Dr. Tartakower, a member of the administrative committee of the World Jewish Congress, was the guest of honor at a reception arranged by the American Jewish Congress at the Hotel Edison. The reception was attended by 500 representatives of Jewish organizations in New York who pledged their cooperation to the American and the World Jewish Congress.
