The Jews of Germany are guaranteed the right by Paragraph III of the Constitution of the Republic to move freely in all parts of the German Republic, declared Deputy Dr. Badt in a speech in the Prussian Diet in the course of a debate on the Estimates of the Ministry of the Interior. He demanded that the Government should therefore immediately put a stop to the exclusion of Jews from the North Sea resort of Borkum, such exclusion being definitely in contravention of the Constitution. In defiance of the Government’s prohibition, he said, the Municipal Board of Borkum is still playing at the close of each performance the so-called “Borkum Song” which declares that “No Jew may stand on Borkum’s strand.” The Constitution of Germany recognizes no distinction between German citizens who are Jews and citizens who are not Jews.
