Louis Bamberger, department store magnate, and his sister, Mrs. Felix Fuld, are joint contributors of a $5,000,000 endowment fund for the establishment of an institute for advanced study, it was announced today.
The institute will provide facilities for advanced study and research for scholars and advanced students working for and beyond their Doctor of Philosophy degree or other professional degrees of equal standing. Mr. Bamberger and Mrs. Fuld intend to make further donations from time to time in addition to the initial $5,000,000 endowment, in order that the institute will be provided for adequately.
On the Board of Trustees for the first year will be included: Edgar S. Bamberger, Dr. Abraham Flexner, Dr. Julius Friedenwald, Lieut-Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, Samuel Leidesdorf and Percy S. Straus.
