A $500,000 gift toward the building of the Sinai unit of the new Baltimore Jewish Center has been made by Eleazer Winakur, 68-year-old private banker and Baltimore resident for 56 years, it was announced today by J. Benjamin Katzner, chairman of the Jewish Medical Center campaign, and Elk### R. Myers, president of the Associated Jewish Charities.
The contribution will be used for the Eleazer Winakur wing of the Sinai Hospital which will contain 28 semi-private and 14 private rooms, all of which, according to the terms of the gift, will be available only for persons unable to pay fully for their use. Ten of the 14 private rooms will be reserved for patients unable to pay any part of the charge for their use. The remaining private and semi-private accommodations will be available only for such persons whose financial status would make them eligible as ward patients.
A total of $9,500,000 has been raised toward the estimated $12,000,000 cost of the new center, Mr. Katzner declared. It is expected that the medical center will be completed by July, 1956.
