Friends and supporters of the movement, launched on the occasion of the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of George Washington, to plant a Washington Forest in Palestine, will gather at a banquet which will be held on Sunday, February 19th, at the Hotel Astor. Approximately 1,000 persons are expected to be among the guests attending the banquet.
Reports from various parts of the country and several sections of the Greater City concerning contributions made for the planting of Washington trees in the Holy Land will be submitted on this occasion to Nelson Ruttenberg, Deputy Police Commissioner of the City of New York and President of the Jewish National Fund of America, under whose auspices the banquet is being arranged.
President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt has been invited to attend the banquet as guest of honor by the National Committee, which is sponsoring the Holy Land tree planting program in honor of George Washington. Grover Whalen, chairman of the New York City Bicentennial Commission, will be one of the speakers, it was announced by Mr. Ruttenberg.
