Knesset Speaker Reuven Barkatt confirmed today that he had met privately in Paris with a Lebanese delegation when he attended the Interparliamentary Union conference last week as head of the Israeli delegation. The meeting, reported yesterday by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, was denied by the Lebanese Embassy in Paris. Barkatt cautioned that too much importance should not be attached to the meeting. He said, however, that “when peace comes, Israel can count on Lebanon being a good neighbor.” He said his impression was that “if Lebanon was our only enemy, we would find it easy to talk to her.”
