The five Barmat brothers involved in the internationally known, sensational trial were acquitted today of charges of credit swindle.
Two of the five brothers, however, Julius and Henry, were sentenced to prison terms on the charge of bribery. Julius was sentenced to eleven months imprisonment and Henry to six months.
The opinion is expressed here generally that the verdict was in the nature of a political compromise, as higher justice demanded their complete acquittal, after evidence was submitted that the Barmat affair was created by reactionary elements to serve their political purposes and to ruin the Barmat banking interests.
