Bashar Assad’s return of the body of an Israeli spy would convince Israel that the Syrian president is ready for peace. “If he would like to move toward peace, we are willing to do it,” Silvan Shalom, the Israeli foreign minister, said Wednesday on CNN. “And he can start with one humanitarian step. Just return the body of Eli Cohen — he’s an Israeli agent that was hanged there 40 years ago — it would be a very positive thing.”
