Discontinuation of the newspaper pillories used particularly for denouncing and branding purchasers in Jewish shops, was ordered yesterday by the Bavarian government.
The government declared that such undignified attacks against individuals and meddling in personal quarrels and boycotts between enterprises and persons is not the business of newspapers who wish to cooperate in the national revolution. The government, it was stated, is in a perfect condition to deal with offenders against the nation, while editors must refrain from continuing the pillories; otherwise, action will be taken against them.
At the same time the Neustadt Nazi party disclosed the curious fact that wide groups of the population are now making all their purchases in other provinces where they are unknown, fearing that if they are seen buying in the Jewish shops of their own home town they will be branded.
The Nazi management therefore assures the population that they can continue to buy at home, without fear of molestation, from any firm they prefer, since “boycott of individual enterprises is not in the interests of economic peace.”
