Dr. Herman Aumer, Commissioner for Jewish Affairs in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, today criticized the Bavarian Economic Office for declaring that aid for displaced Germans in Bavaria is being held up because of the necessity of providing clothing for Jews planning to emigrate to Palestine.
Aumer pointed out that there are only about 17,000 Jews in Bavaria, as compared to the several million displaced Germans. He also disclosed that the plan to provide only 5,000 of the 17,000 Jews with clothing has only been sixty percent completed. “It is apparent how unsatisfactory has been the contribution to alleviating the distress of the Jews persecuted by Nazi Germany,” he continued.
A report from Gruenwald, in the British zone, discloses that the town’s secondary school has been renamed the Rathenau Schule to commemorate Walter Rathenau, former Jewish foreign minister of Germany, who was assassinated in Gurenwald in 1922.
