The Bavarian Parliament declared today its “abhorrence” of anti-Semitism at a special session, after Dr. Hans Ehard, speaker of the House, requested that the government uncover the background of the recent anti-Semitic outbreaks and “take action against the offenders as well as those who are behind them” Dr. Ehard called for increased educational activities to make a repetition of the anti-Semitic resurgence impossible.
Bavaria is the only state in West Germany that has on its books a law making defamation of a minority group punishable as a crime. So far, the law has been applied only once, in the case of two Ukrainians convicted of distributing anti-Semitic leaflets.
The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior announced today that the Hungarian Arrow Cross group, which is considered fascist, has been ordered to dissolve its German headquarters by 1961 and to stop publication of its anti-Semitic periodicals.
