Bearded Jews in Palestine will have to choose between their beards and gas masks, since efficient use of gas masks is hampered by beards, it was stated here today when the Government received a shipment of 120,000 gas masks for distribution among the population.
So serious is the problem, that the Chief Rabbinate is calling a special session to consider it. The belief is expressed that the Rabbinate may decide that the removal of beards is permissible in cases where this is absolutely necessary.
