Murry C. Becker is the new president of the Lawyers Club of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities, succeeding Herman S. Bachrach, who has resigned, it was announced last night at Federation headquarters, 94 Clinton street.
Mr. Bachrach, who was elected last December for his fifth consecutive term, had hoped to complete the year, but the pressure of other affairs intervened, and “it was therefore necessary that I relinquish the Lawyers Club presidency, as much as I regretted doing so,” he said.
Mr. Becker has been affiliated with the Lawyers Club since its organization in 1926 and for the past year has served as first vice-president.
Mr. Becker was born at Hamilton, Ontario, in 1895. He was educated in Brooklyn public schools and at New York University, receiving his LL. B. in 1916. He is assistant treasurer of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities and a director of the Brooklyn Y. M. H. A., a Federation affiliate. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York County Lawyers Association. He was social director of the Williamsburg Y. M. H. A., another Federation constituent, from 1913 to 1916. His home is at Lawrence, L. I.
The Lawyers Club is one of the most important organizations in the Federation and has a membership of approximately 1,000. The club last year raised nearly $40,000 in the Federation campaign, and is expected to obtain an equal amount in the present twenty-fifth anniversary drive, $25,000 having been secured already.
