The Fascist-inclined Belgian Rexists carried their agitation from the streets into Parliament today at an extraordinary session convened to discuss defense measures, according to the Havas News Agency.
With heavy patrols of gendarmes mounting guard over the building, Rexists provoked several minor incidents within the chamber. The extra gendarme guards were posted as a result of the Rexist demonstrations last Sunday, but no major disorders took place after the Parliamentary session began.
Leon Degrelle, leader of the Rexists, who was released from jail yesterday, staged a miniature coup d’etat in the Place Marie Louise today, after threatening the capital once again with an invasion of 400,000 of his followers. Degrelle and a band of his partisans took possession of the square, stopping all traffic, while he began to speak from the base of the statue of General Bernheim. Police appeared on the scene. Degrelle and his men promptly left.
