The Official Gazette today published a decree dealing with new measures to be taken against aliens “as a result of the forced immigration of people composed of various elements.”
An interministerial committee to investigate the situation of refugees has been formed and it is expected that every refugee will be obliged to register with the authorities for the purpose of establishing his past record.
Meanwhile, registration of Jewish volunteers is proceeding rapidly through Belgium, each volunteer signing the following pledge: “In connection with the threatening international situation and at a time when part of the Belgian citizens have been mobilized under arms, I hereby declare myself voluntarily at the disposal of the Belgian authorities and hold myself ready immediately to carry out any obligations which may be imposed on me.”
Chief Rabbi Wiener of Belgium has ordered prayers for peace to be said in all synagogues throughout the country.
