The Jews of Belgrade have written to the Chief of the Albanian Military Mission in Belgrade, Maj. Vasil Konomi, asking him to convey to his government and his people the gratitude of the Yugoslav Jews who “were nobly received in the homes of Albanian families and protected against any hardships,” according to a Tirana broadcast, reported today by the Office of War Information.
“The first thought of the Jews who returned to Yugoslavia from Albania is to express gratitude and enthusiasm toward the Albanians who showed a wonderful attitude in the most critical moments of our lives and at the crucial period of civilized mankind,” said the broadcast.
The Yugoslav Jews “were nobly received in the homes of Albanian families and protected against any hardships” and “the Albanian people will be blessed by all oppressed peoples for having contributed toward saving many Jewish lives,” the latter was quoted as stating.
