The Palestine authorities have not issued orders for the detention of David Ben Gurion, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive who is now in Paris, and should he return to Palestine he will not be arrested, a representative of the Palestine Government told a press conference today. He confirmed that censorship has been imposed on mail from Jewish internees in Cyprus as well as on communications sent to them.

About 1,250 Jews who have been detained in the Athlit camp in Palestine as “illegal” immigrants will be released tomorrow under the Oct.-Nov. immigration quota. Another 870 detainees will remain there to await the next monthly quota. There is no confirmation here that the Palestine Government intends to transfer 400 Jews from Cyprus to the Athlit camp to wait their turn to be released.

The Jewish National Council voted today to ship food and clothing to the Cyprus internees, in cooperation with the Joint Distribution Committee. It also decided to lodge a formal protest with the authorities against the use of gas against passengers aboard the refugee vessel Palmach, which was intercepted on the high seas last month by a British destroyer. Twelve of the Palmach passengers are under treatment in a Palestine military hospital for serious burns and inflammation of the eyes.
