Former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion who is said to be planning to run for a seat in the Knesset (Parliament) in next year’s national elections, has informed Parliamentary labor leaders by letter that he regards himself as a one-man faction which he calls Rafi. Rafi was the name of a faction headed by Shimon Peres and Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, which broke away from the Mapai party several years ago. It was incorporated into the Israel Labor Party by merger early this year along with Mapai and Achdut Avodah. It was learned that while the Labor Party leadership is prepared to acknowledge Mr. Ben-Gurion’s designation of himself as a one-man faction, they will not accept the name Rafi which, they note, no longer exists.
