Premier David Ben Gurion said today that Israel would never agree, under any conditions that the Egyptian invader return to the Gaza Strip. The Premier’s forthright declaration came in the Knesset when he replied to an intervention referring to statements that Israel does not seek to retain the Gaza region. He said bluntly that no one was authorized to speak for Israel with regard to the Gaza Strip who did not make this position clear.
(In an interview yesterday with Hanson W. Baldwin of the New York Times. Mr. Ben Gurion said that under no conditions can the Egyptians come back to the Gaza Strip. “We will not let them come back,” he was quoted as saying. He indicated his belief that “there should be a United Nations High Commissioner in Gaza.”
(The correspondent also quoted Mr. Ben Gurion as advocating demilitarization of the Sinai Peninsula and internationalization of the Strait of Tiran which leads into the Gulf of Akaba.)
