Premier David Ben Gurion is expected to recommend to his Mapai Party tonight that it join with the General Zionists in a coalition government, despite the fact that the Mapam has decided not to enter such a cabinet. The Mapai political committee is scheduled to convene here tonight for a detailed report of the negotiations between Mapai and General Zionist representatives for the latter’s joining a government led by the Labor Party.
Hayim Greenberg, head of the Jewish Agency education department, today told a press conference that a budget of 200,000 pounds ($5,600,000) has been allocated for the for the extension of the Hebrew education program in Jewish communities throughout the world. Centers of Israel culture, offering chiefly adult courses, will be established in Buenos Aires and Paris, he announced, adding that special courses will be given in Israel and abroad for Hebrew teachers from countries outside Israel. He cited American Zionist and non-Zionist opposition to full-time Hebrew schools, but hoped that the “situation would improve” as a result of the decisions of the recent World Zionist Congress.
