President Itzhak Ben Zvi of Israel, who served as a private in the “First Judean” battalion of the Jewish Legion in Palestine during the First World War, paid tribute yesterday to his former commander.
The President, in the presence of diplomatic representatives of the Commonwealth nations, participated in the dedication of a tombstone on the grave of Lieut. Col. Eliezar Margolin, who commanded the 39th Battalion. Mr. Ben Zvi spoke of the significant role of Col. Margolin and of his personal valor in defense of the Jews of Tel Aviv when Arab mobs attacked the all-Jewish city during the 1921 riots.
