Bennett, as one who has redeemed his pledges, one of the speakers at the conference, Onesime Gagnon, stated that from the very days of his advent to power, Premier Bennett has shown his determination to keep his word when he shut the door of Canada to foreign immigration, and the speaker said, he could promise for his French colleagues of the Province that they would oppose any opening of this door whatever the political consequence of such an attitude.

This anti-immigration hue and cry is being raised in the face of an incessant drop in the number of new arrivals to the Canadian shores. During the month of June immigration into Canada totalled 1,424 arrivals, a decrease of 44.4 percent from the same month a year ago, when the figure was 2,562. The countries of Central and Southern Europe sent 236 immigrants during that month.
