Berlin Film Audience Finds Nothing Funny in Chaplin’s ‘great Dictator’

A West Berlin cinema audience saw nothing to laugh at and nothing to applaud when Charlie Chaplin’s hilarious satire on Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, “The Great Dictator,” had its German premiere, British newspaper correspondents reported today. They noted that while there had been some laughter in the theatre during the early scenes of the film, there was no laughter and no applause later.
