Directors of the Economic Aid Department of the Berlin Jewish Community. Dr. Bruno Woyda, and Herr S. Adler-Rudel, reported on the work of the Department during the past year, at a meeting held here of representatives of the Community institutions, the Rabbinate and of the workers in the Economic Aid Department.
The president of the Berlin Jewish Community, Heinrich Stahl. who presided, explained that the purpose of the meeting was to review the work accomplished till now the field of economic aid and to announce future plans.
“They had found it necessary.” he said,” to make a sharp line of demarcation between the activity of the Economic Aid Department and that of the Welfare Office of the Community, which had previously carried out some of the work. In the economic aid, in contradiction to the usual welfare work. In the economic aid, in contradiction to the usual welfare work, they were dealing only with new tasks which had arisen out of the conditions of the present time. It was not intended to carry on welfare work, but to protect insecure livelihoods and keep them from breaking down. This is a vital task of the Community, for the firmer the economic existence of the members of the Community, the more firm was the Community itself.”
