A solemn protest against the recent anti-Jewish excesses at Beuthen and other parts of Upper-Silesia, was voiced at the meeting of the Berlin Kehillah, following the presentation of a report by Dr. Klee, who just returned from the disturbed area.
He described in detail the circumstances under which the first pogrom on German territory took place. Dr. Klee stressed the dignified attitude of the Jewish residents of Beuthen, who in face of the weakness of the authorities, proudly resisted the hooligans’ assaults.
After expressing his thanks to the JTA for the efficient manner in which it conducted the investigation into the excesses of Beuthen, Dr. Klee formally inquired of the Gemeinderrat as to the steps it contemplated taking to safeguard the German Jews.
Herr Stern who presided, condemned the excesses, saying the Jews of Germany looked to the Government for protection, expecting it to take steps to prevent the repetition of such disorders as occurred in Upper-Silesia.
