The memorial marking the spot where Walter Rathenau, German foreign minister, who was assassinated by anti-Semites on June 24, 1922, was desecrated last night by Nazis. The memorial at the corner of Koenigsalle in Gruenwald was smeared with paint and Swastika signs by the vandals who also destroyed a wreath placed there by the Republican Union to mark the eighth anniversary of the assassination.
