For the first time since the advent of the Hitler regime, a mass meeting sponsored by the Keren Hayesod, Jewish Foundation Fund, was permitted here by the German police. The meeting was addressed by noted German Zionist leaders including Dr. Oskar Wasserman, Dr. Kurt Blumenfeld, Friedrich Brodnitz and Michael Traub.
Dr. Wasserman, who oppened the meeting, condemned the restrictions on Jewish immigration imposed by the Palestine government and the deportation of those illegally in the country. “It means that we all cannot migrate to Palestine,” said Dr. Wasserman. “Our fate will have to be settled here. However,, Palestine is not only important for us German Jews, but it is perhaps the most decisive factor for our future in Germany.” Dr. Wasserman also contrasted the restrictions against Jewish students in German universities with the possibilities for Jewish students at the Hebrew University.
