Rabbi Meir Berlin, founder of the World Mizrachi Organization, orthodox Zionists, and member of the World Executive of the group, today resigned his post owing to differences with the majority on the question of peace in the society’s ranks.
Rabbi Berlin was formerly president of the world body and was honorary president following his retirement from active work. He makes his permanent home in Palestine.
For more than a year differences have been known to exist within the ranks of the Mizrachi on a number of important questions. These became quite acute some time ago when the Mizrachi decided to withdraw their representative, Rabbi Ostrovsky, from the executive of the Vaad Leumi, Jewish National Council of Palestine.
Supported by other members of the organization, Rabbi Ostrovsky refused to leave his post and formed an organization called Mizrachi Havatik, Mizrachi veterans.
