A protest against the verdict of an unofficial investigating committee clearing Vladimir Poliakoff, publisher, of ex-employees’ charges he “sold out” the Pariser Tageblatt to the Nazis was voiced yesterday by Dr. Georg Bernhard, former editor of the German emigre daily, in a statement.
According to the statement, the committee that investigated the charges was composed partly of Mr. Poliakoff’s friends and partly of his business associates.
Dr. Bernhard insists that he possesses genuine proof of Mr. Poliakoff’s alleged negotiations with the German Embassy in Paris. This proof has not been made public because it is confidential, the former editor of the Tageblatt declares, but will be produced before a French legal court.
The committee that investigated the charges against Mr. Poliakoff was under the chairmanship of Dr. Henry Sliosberg, famous attorney and champion of Jewish rights. Others on the committee included Vladimir Jabotinsky, head of the New Zionist Organization, and Justizrat Dr. Werthauer.
Dr. Bernhard and his associates, who now issue a new paper, the Pariser Tageszeitung, had refused to appear before the committee, declaring they would testify in the defamation suit brought against them by Mr. Poliakoff.
