A resolution urging the Reagan Administration not to sell any advanced weapons to Jordan, including aircraft and mobile missiles, “because they threaten the security of Israel,” has been introduced by Senators Edward Kennedy (D. Mass.) and John Heinz (R. Pa.)

The two Senators also sent a letter to President Reagan last Thursday informing him about the resolution which also urges the United States to “ensure that Israel retains its qualitative military edge in the Middle East.”

The resolution noted that Israel is “a stable, democratic and reliable ally” and that its security “is in the national interest of the United States.” The resolution noted that Jordan had opposed the Camp David process, has “joined forces with Iraq whose government is committed to the destruction of Israel “and which plans to buy advanced weapons from the Soviet Union.

The Reagan Administration has denied that it is considering a proposal to sell F-16 fighter planes and mobile Hawk missiles to Jordan. It has said that before any decision on such a sole would be made, Congress would be consulted.
