A bill providing for compulsory military service will soon be submitted to the Israeli parliament, officials disclosed today.
The measure will stipulate a two-year term in the Israeli Army for men between the ages of 18 and 26, and 18 months for those aged 27 to 29. The term of service for single women will be one year between the ages of 18 and 26. In all cases, after the basic military training, the period of armed service will include agricultural training.
Men aged 18 to 39 will be eligible for the reserve and will serve 31 consecutive days annually. Men up to the age of 49 will serve 14 consecutive days annually.
