A bill making it an offense to disturb the religious peace and to disturb the peace of the dead by vandalistic acts in the cemeteries is now pending before the Reichstag.
The bill, which came up for consideration yesterday before the judiciary committee of the Reichstag, was prompted, it was declared, by the 76 cases of desecration of Jewish cemeteries which have been recorded in Germany during the past three years and the numerous attacks on synagogues. The bill provides punishment also for interference in funeral processions.
The bill was reported favorably by the committee, the rapporteur declaring that the German State is not identified with any particular church, but strives to protect all religions.
