With a majority of 12 against 10, the Committee on Education in the Polish Sejm rejected a bill introduced by Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum to regulate the procedure in admitting students to the colleges.

The bill was intended to guarantee equality of treatment in cases where students are rejected not because of their lack of qualifications but because of lack of space in the educational institutions. The charge was made that Jewish students are mainly the victims of such rejections.

The bill had the support of the members of the Left parties. The deputies representing the pro-government bloc and the National Democratic Party voted against it.
