Brief biographies of about 4,000 Jewish scientists from more than 70 countries are contained in “Jews in the World of Science,” a biographical dictionary which made its appearance here today. The volume is published by Monde Publishers and is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Albert Einstein to whom tribute is paid in an essay by Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, noted physicist.
The volume is co-edited by Dr. Harry Cohen, and Dr. Itzhak J. Carmin. Among the group of special articles, Dr. Cohen offers a comprehensive account of the achievement of top Jewish scientists in physics, medicine and social sciences. Meyer W. Weisgal, chairman of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel presents an account of the contributions of Israel’s first president, the late scientist-statesman, Dr. Chaim Weizmann. The work of Dr. Jonas E. Salk is the subject of an article by Prof. Louis Gershenfeld of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.
