Instructions were issued today to all priests of the Lomza district by the Bishop of the district “to make clear” to all members of their churches that they must not patronize peddlers of a certain race, meaning Jews.
These instructions contain anti-Jewish allegations which rival those appearing in the Nazi press.
The Bishop warns the priests that “the peddlers of this race are spies, their goods are stolen and are of inferior quality.”
As his chief motive for these instructions, the Bishop states that the competition these peddlers are developing in his district “deprives Polish merchants of bread.”
“All this should be made clear to everyone,” the Bishop emphasizes.
