The Roman Catholic Bishops of Germany today called upon their constituent communities to “atone for all crimes committed by wicked dictators in the name of our people against fundamental human rights.” The call was issued in a pastoral letter on the occasion of the forthcoming Ecumenical Council to be held in Rome next month.
Officials of the University of Wuerzburg said today a decision would be made soon on whether Dr. Rudolf Schiedermair would be suspended as a professor of law in view of charges against him in connection with his role as a Nazi jurist.
Dr. Schiedermair last week asked that he be suspended from his post as president of the Bavarian Administrative Court pending a review of the case. The West German Interior Ministry, in announcing its investigation, said the jurist had not indicated, when he joined the West German judiciary, that he had been an SS officer and that he had worked in the Nazi central office in drafting plans for the “final solution of the Jewish question” in Bohemia and Moravia.”
