The meeting of the teachers, board of directors, and parents of the pupils of the Torah M’Zion Yeshivah, 623 Stone Avenue, which was called to arrange an amiable agreement of the teachers’ strike last night, broke up in a general exchange of epithets.
The split occurred on the question of the union. The four teachers demanded the right to be represented by the Central Committee of Hebrew Teachers, a demand which both the parents and directors strenuously opposed.
Twice confusion resulted when this issue was raised, and twice order was restored. After a third general disorder, the teachers despaired of reaching a decision and walked out, resolving to resume the week-old strike and continue picketing the Yeshivah.
Before the meeting broke up, the three factions had reached an agreement on the disposition of tuition fees and appeal collections. These were to be allocated to pay the teachers’ salaries.
Members of the board of directors attempted to bar reporters in protest against what they called “slandering of the yeshivah in the press.” Through the intercession of teachers and parents, however, a Bulletin reporter was finally admitted.
