A total of $173,465 has been raised thus far by the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities in its $500,000 twenty-fifth anniversary campaign, it was announced last night by County Judge Algeron I. Nova, chairman of the drive, at a dinner meeting of chairman and vice-chairman of the more than ninety divisions of the Trade and Membership Council, the fund-raising organization, meeting at the Unity Club, Brooklyn.
Detailed reports were made by division representatives. Divisional reports from Manhattan were that prospects are bright for very substantial contributions there to the Brooklyn Federation’s campaign.
Judge Nova declared that “although the philanthropy bill of the Brooklyn Jewish community is steadily on the increase, the number of communally-minded citizens who stand ready to meet this bill has actually decreased.” Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May, president of the Federation, explained that the real purpose of the Federation is “to alleviate human suffering and distress of every possible form.”
