A leader of the Canadian Negro community has denounced Negro anti-Semitism and affirmed that “black people have no justification for the senseless bigotry of anti-Semitism.” In an article appearing in Contrast, a periodical devoted to the interests of the Canadian Negro community, Stanley Grizzle, president of the Toronto Negro Business and Professional Men’s Association, deplored “the name-calling between Christians and Jews arising out of the Middle East conflict” and termed “equally agonizing” the “black-Jew confrontations in New York and other American cities.” He said, “I am aware that there are anti-Jewish blacks in Canada as well.” In Canada, Mr. Grizzle said, “the Jew has been the conscience of the community in the areas of human and civil rights.” He added that “it would be sad to have a coalition between the blacks and Jews come to an end. Both groups have suffered greatly at the hands of white Christians. And both groups must maintain an alliance, develop the moral will, decency and understanding to help free the white, Christian world of its anti-Semitism and anti-blackism.”
