A “Black Book” on the British treatment of Jews in Palestine was published today by the American League for a Free Palestine. Charging the British administration with anti-Semitism the volume contains reports and photos aimed at showing that the treatment of the Jews in Palestine today “involves denial of civil liberties, tortures, imprisonment in concentration camps without trial and the burning of Hebrew books.”
(In London, it was announced today in the House of Commons that Prof. Jonah Smertenko, vice-president of the American League for a Free Palestine, will not be permitted to enter England again because of his recent statements concerning the misconduct of British troops in Palestine. The announcement was made by George H. Oliver, Under-Secretary to the Home Office.).
The League today also made public the text of a letter sent by its president, former Senator Guy Gillette, to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency, suggesting a program under which the Jewish Agency would be dissolved, and the World Zionist Organization would be converted into a non-sectarian movement enlisting members of all faiths and creeds. The letter also urges the immediate proclamation by the World Zionist Congress of a provisional government for a “Hebrew Republic of Palestine.”
