Aristide Blank, head of the Banca Marmorosch Blank Company, and one of Roumania’s leading Jews, presided today at the official opening of the All-Roumanian Ort Center which coincided with a banquet given in honor of Dr. Aaron Singalovsky, a member of the executive of the world Ort Federation. Leading Jews from all parts of the countries, government officials and representatives of the principal Roumanian parties attended the ceremonies.
M. Manoilescu, minister of trade and industry, speaking on behalf of the government, welcomed the establishment of the Roumanian Ort Center and pledged the government’s active support. Spokesmen for the various parties emphasized the importance of the Ort’s work not only for Roumanian Jewry but for the country as a whole.
Dr. Singalovsky recently obtained from M. Argetoianu, minister of the interior, a promise of subsidies for the Ort schools in which Jewish youth are taught handicrafts, release from customs duties of machinery sent to Roumanian Jews by their relatives abroad through the Ort, and state aid for the relief of the Jewish tobacco planters in Bessarabia who are suffering as a result of the government monopoly of the tobacco industry.
