George Blumenthal, patron of arts and philanthropies in France and America and president of Mount Sinai Hospital, has accepted the chairmanship of the $2,221,000 campaign which the Jews of New York will launch at a dinner at the Hotel Commodore next Sunday night, October 19, in behalf of the ninety-one affiliated agencies of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies.
Announcement of Mr. Blumenthal’s selection as head of the fund-raising effort of the local Jewish community chest was made by Felix M. Warburg, chairman of the Federation board, who explained that the sum sought was needed to complete the budget of $5,499,000 voted to the constitutent agencies at the beginning of 1930 for the current year.
As president of Mount Sinai Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the country, Mr. Blumenthal will have at his command the services of the presidents of the ninety other agencies of the Federation, in addition to the 2,400 workers from trades and professions constituting the Business Men’s Council, headed by Samuel Leidesdorf, chairman, and Ira M. Younker, associate chairman.
